In late 2025, the City of Helsinki's Urban Environment Division commissioned a survey from Taloustutkimus Oy, aimed at measuring residents' satisfaction with walking conditions and the quality of walking in Helsinki, and to learn more about pedestrians in the city.
When users were asked about metro stations and their surroundings, the Koivusaari and Lauttasaari stations — both designed by Helin & Co — received by far the highest scores. On a scale of 1–5, Koivusaari metro station achieved the best average score (4.3), and Lauttasaari metro station ranked second (3.98). The responses also highlighted users' satisfaction with the walkability of the areas surrounding the Koivusaari and Lauttasaari stations.
The two stations have earned praise and awards since opening. The design philosophy behind both stations has been user-friendliness and aesthetics, drawing inspiration from the surrounding nature and each station's characteristic theme. At Lauttasaari, the theme is snow and ice, while at Koivusaari, it is water and the sea.
